Trader-philanthropist seeks changes in Albay

Legazpi City, Albay — A non-traditional politician and philanthropist, who is noted in this province for extending help to the needy and underprivileged, is seeking changes in poverty-stricken Albay.

A successful businessman, Engineer Ric G. Ayala said that “we need to act together to bring changes in our government, particularly in Albay, which is left behind in terms of economic and agricultural development.”

In the past several years, Engineer Ayala has been providing free medical and dental services to the people of Albay, particularly those who have no one to turn to for assistance.

Ayala vowed to continue his medical mission for his provincemates, using his money in his bid to support the medical needs of the people in the second district.

“Our policemen are all under-paid eve as they risk their lives and limbs in securing the people 24 hour a day, and the soldiers who died on the line of duty do not receive commensurate payments so that their families could live decently,” Ayala lamented.

He noted that many people in the province are getting hungry and slowly sinking into despair brought about by government neglect “as our country is stricken with severe poverty.”

Engineer Ayala is being urged by his provincemates to run for congress in Albay’s second district in the 2010 national and local elections.

They said that his entry in politics would result not only in political change but also a change in the living condition of the neglected people.
