Mangalorean entrepreneur, philanthropist Lawrence D’Souza wins prestigious award

Mumbai, August 25, 2009: Mangalorean born Lawrence D’Souza a well known entrepreneur and philanthropist has won the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Rashtriya Ekta Samman Award. He was awarded this national award for his contribution to the society and work in excellence in his chosen field on 19th Aug 2009 at New Delhi.

Mr. Lawrence D’Souza is the Managing Director of the Blue Star Elevators India Limited which is a growing company producing elevators in India.

Born on September 1949 in Pejavar near Mangalore Mr. D’Souza is a commerce graduate, after the degree course Mr. D’Souza acquired technical expertise in the field and in 1994 he started his own company that produces top quality elevators which has an all India Market. His elevator company is now one of the frontline elevator companies like Otis, Mitsubishi, Thyssen Krupp, Kone and others.

 

Due to the far sightedness of Mr D’Souza the company is now a certified public limited company and is exporting lifts to various foreign markets. His company now produces a host of lift products including passenger lifts, goods lifts, capsule lifts, flame and dust proof lifts, Dumb waiters, Hoist lifts, high speed lifts and elevators. His clientele includes large business houses like Reliance Leela hotels, airports, Ispat limited and many hospitals and thousands of housing societies.

Mr. D’Souza has been also known in the community for his philanthropic work. He is also socially and culturally vibrant and only last year he had taken over as the president of  Konkani association at Mulund in Mumbai after which the membership has grown from 250 to 1800 in less than one year. Lion Lawrence D’Souza has also served Lions club in various capacities. He was the director, ex-vice president  and currently second vice president of Lions Club, Bombay Lake Side, Mumbai.
