The 81st Golden Globe Awards, scheduled to air on CBS on January 7, 2024, have just secured a host.

The announcement came on Thursday, revealing that comedian Jo Koy, aged 52, will take on the role of guiding Hollywood through the prestigious ceremony.

In an enthusiastic statement, Koy expressed his excitement, saying, “I’ve stepped onto a lot of stages around the world in my career, but this one is going to be extra special. I’m so excited to be hosting the Golden Globes this year. This is that moment where I get to make my Filipino family proud. Mahal Kita (Google it)!”

Golden Globes President Helen Hoehne also conveyed their excitement, stating, “We are thrilled to have Jo host the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards and bring his infectious energy and relatable humor to kick off Hollywood’s award season. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for the stars in the room and a global audience. We know Jo is bringing his A-game.”

Notably, Koy marks the first host under the new management of Dick Clark Productions and holding company Eldridge, who acquired the rights and assets of the awards show in June.

The Golden Globes, previously managed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) since its founding in 1943, had faced controversies in recent years regarding its handling of the show. Comedian Jerrod Carmichael hosted last year’s ceremony, using his monologue to shed light on the HFPA’s diversity scandal.

In a departure from the previous year’s decision not to feature a host, the 2024 ceremony will have Jo Koy leading the way. The event will introduce two new categories: cinematic and box office achievement in motion pictures and best stand-up comedian on television.

As for nominations, Barbie received an impressive nine nods, leading the pack in film categories. Oppenheimer followed closely with eight, while Killers of the Flower Moon and Poor Things both secured seven nominations. On the television front, Succession’s final season earned nine nominations.

The 2024 Golden Globe Awards will be broadcast live on CBS from 8 to 11 p.m. ET, following an NFL on CBS Sunday doubleheader. Viewers can also catch the show on Paramount+ and the CBS app. The anticipation builds as Jo Koy prepares to bring his charisma to the Golden Globes stage, promising an entertaining kickoff to the award season.
