National Galentine’s Day Survey Reveals Friendships Outlast Romantic Relationships

SAN FRANCISCOFeb. 5, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — Nearly two-thirds of Americans (62%) say they have friendships that last longer than their romantic relationships, according to a new survey on friendships and gaming released today by mobile gaming company, Fort Mason Games [https://www.fortmasongames.com/friendship-survey].

In the run-up to Galentine’s Day — the day before Valentine’s day in which women celebrate their friendships rather than their romantic partnerships — Fort Mason Games asked more than 1,300 Americans questions about friendships. The survey reveals interesting insights into how we make friends and what we look for in those relationships.

“As a company that is inventing the next generation of mobile games to make them more social and collaborative, we are interested in how people think about friendship,” said Fort Mason Games CEO Kate Gorman. “The underlying takeaway is that Americans value their friendships and put a lot of effort into creating and maintaining those relationships in person and online.”

Surprising friendship facts from the survey found:

  • 86% of Americans say they have friends they think will be friends for life
  • 51% say trustworthiness is a top friendship trait
  • 35% say their busy lifestyles are the biggest obstacle to friendship

Americans are looking to mobile games as a way to connect with friends:

  • 65% want to play mobile games collaboratively with friends
  • 64% want to try mobile games that make it easier to make friends
  • 73% wish there was a mobile game that had a virtual “game night”
